Drive Thru Flu 2025

Your provider at Nurture Pediatrics recommends that all children 6 months and older get an annual flu vaccine.

During the winter months, transmission of the flu is expected to rise. Saturday Drive Up Flu Clinic schedule has been announced! Appointments available throughout the week as well.

Children six months and older are recommended to receive the flu vaccines to decrease the risk of serious complications of the flu.

Flu Mist nasal spray is also available for those two years and older.

Making sure your child is up to date on vaccinations is very important. Children younger than 5 and those with certain chronic conditions may be at increased risk for complications.

We’re so excited to invite our families and community to our Trunk or Treat event at Nurture Pediatrics Smyrna on Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 5:00–7:00 PM!

This free, family-friendly event is all about costumes, candy, and community fun. Our staff, community partners, and local businesses will be decorating trunks and handing out treats in a safe and festive environment for kids of all ages.

Nurture Pediatrics is excited to welcome Abbey Gosik, FNP , to our provider team! Abbey will begin seeing patients in our Smyrna office starting September 2, 2025 .

Abbey brings a strong passion for pediatrics and family-centered care. Her background includes experience as a registered nurse in the newborn nursery, as well as work in both acute care and outpatient settings. During her nurse practitioner training, she completed clinical rotations in pediatric primary care and pediatric neurology.

At Nurture, Abbey looks forward to building trusting relationships with families and caring for children of all ages. Her holistic approach emphasizes preventive health, parent education, child safety, and advancing health equity.

Outside of the office, Abbey enjoys spending time with her husband and their two dogs, hiking, traveling, and exploring new coffee shops and restaurants.

Nurture Pediatrics is thrilled to welcome Courtney Guiler DNP, a board-certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, to our care team beginning in Summer 2025. Courtney earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Pediatric Primary Care from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and brings a compassionate, patient-centered approach to caring for children from birth through young adulthood.

Courtney has extensive nursing experience, including several years as a school nurse with the Metro Nashville Public Health Department, where she managed complex student health needs and mentored new nurses. She has also worked in acute care settings, including pediatric cardiac step-down, intensive care, and emergency departments.

During her clinical training, Courtney completed over 500 hours of hands-on pediatric primary care experience, including rotations right here at Nurture Pediatrics and in specialty clinics such as pediatric endocrinology at Vanderbilt. Her clinical interests include behavioral health, pediatric diabetes education, adolescent e-cigarette use, and empowering families through clear, thoughtful guidance.

With a focus on whole-child we llness, Courtney is passionate about building trusting relationships with families and helping children grow into healthy, confident individuals. Outside of work Courtney enjoys spending time with her kids, outdoor activities as a family, and being involved in her church.

We’re writing to share heartfelt news about a much-loved provider and exciting updates about new additions to our team.

Dr. Jennifer Wagner will be stepping away from the practice of medicine following the birth of her third child. Her last day with Nurture Pediatrics will be August 31, 2025 . Dr. Wagner has been a compassionate, thoughtful, and steady presence for so many of our families, and she has guided countless children with her clinical skill and warmth. While we will deeply miss her, we are overjoyed for her and her growing family and grateful for the years of dedicated care she’s provided to our practice.

To support your child’s continued care, we are thrilled to welcome Dr. Ruth Anne Tomlinson and Courtney Guiler, DNP, CPNP-PC to our Nolensville

office. Both providers bring exceptional experience in pediatric primary care, with special interests in preventive medicine, behavioral health, and family-centered care. Dr. Tyler Kennedy will be leaving Nurture Pediatrics effective May 31, 2025, as he embarks on an exciting new opportunity at Boston Children's Hospital. While we are saddened to see him go, we are incredibly grateful for the compassionate care he has provided to so many children and families.

Dr. Kennedy has been a dedicated and trusted provider, known for his kind and enthusiastic demeanor, thorough care, and ability to make both parents and children feel at ease. USFDA Recall: Nutramigen

Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is alerting parents, caregivers, and health care providers that Reckitt/Mead Johnson Nutrition has voluntarily recalled certain Nutramigen Hypoallergenic Infant Formula Powder products due to possible Cronobacter sakazakii contamination. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall, and it is likely most of the product that was distributed in the U.S. has already been consumed.

What is the new RSV vaccine Beyfortus?

RSV Immunization for Children 19 months and Younger

Nirsevimab (Beyfortus) is an immunization recommended for all infants younger than 8 months of age who are born during—or who are entering—their first Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) season. Except in rare circumstances, most infants younger than 8 months of age do not need nirsevimab if they were born 14 or more days after their mother got RSV vaccine. Nirsevimab is also recommended for some children age 8 through 19 months who are at increased risk for severe RSV disease and entering their second RSV season.

What is the RSV vaccine Beyfortus?

Beyfortus is not technically a vaccine, as it does not cause the body to make its own antibodies against RSV . Rather, it provides a dose of pre-made antibodies that provide “passive immunity” for at least 5 months. It has been shown to reduce the risk of serious RSV disease by 80%.

Who can get Beyfortus?

All babies born after March 1, 2023 are eligible this year. Newborns should ideally receive it in their first week of life. If a mother received the maternal RSV vaccine ( Abrysvo ) at least 14 days before the baby was born, the child is protected and will not need Beyfortus. High risk patients in their second RSV season may be eligible, which will be determined by your child’s provider.

What are the side effects of Beyfortus?

Pain
Redness, or swelling at the injection site
Mild rash
These were the most common side effects during clinical trials

My baby already had RSV this season, can they get Beyfortus?

Yes! Natural immunity from having RSV may last about 2 months, but the RSV season is much longer than that and infants can be reinfected with other strains of the virus. If they are eligible, it’s recommended that they get Beyfortus.

Can my infant get Beyfortus with other routine childhood vaccines?

Yes, it can be given at their checkup along with other vaccines . In clinical trials it was not shown to interfere with the body’s immune response to other routine vaccines.

How long does it take to start working?

It takes about 6 days to have full effect. The effect is strongest in the first several weeks and wanes over time.

How Do I Pay for Nirsevimab?

Vaccines for Children (VFC) program
Nirsevimab will be covered by VFC, a federally funded program that provides vaccines at no cost to children who might not otherwise be vaccinated because of inability to pay. Children younger than 19 years of age are eligible for the VFC Program if they belong to one or more of the following groups:

Medicaid-eligible
Uninsured
Underinsured

Dr. Wagner's story begins in Rochester, New York, where she was born and raised. Her educational journey led her south to Harding University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Her thirst for knowledge and passion for pediatrics then took her to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, where she completed her medical school education.

Expertise Nurtured at Vanderbilt

In her pursuit of excellence in pediatric care, Dr. Wagner underwent residency training at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, a renowned institution. Her time there honed her skills and instilled a deep commitment to providing the best care possible for her young patients. In June 2018, she emerged as a certified pediatrician, recognized by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Determined to merge her medical expertise with her nurturing nature, Katie pursued her BSN from the prestigious Duke University School of Nursing. After graduation, she embarked on her nursing career at Duke University Hospital, where she worked on the Pediatric Progressive Care Unit. Her dedication to pediatric care and her thirst for knowledge led her back to Duke University School of Nursing, where she pursued her MSN Pediatric Nurse Practitioner-Primary Care degree. Katie's commitment to excellence was further recognized with membership in the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing, a testament to her dedication to the field.
