A sports physical serves a different purpose than a routine well-child checkup: it's designed to confirm a child can safely take on the physical demands of a sport before they start. During the exam, the pediatrician reviews medical history, including chronic conditions, past injuries, or symptoms like dizziness or chest pain during exercise, and evaluates musculoskeletal health — bones, muscles, and joints — for strength, flexibility, and signs of overuse. The exam also satisfies requirements set by schools, camps, or sports teams. 

Telehealth

Telehealth gives your child access to a virtual visit with the same pediatrician who already knows their history, without a trip into the office. It works well for common concerns like rashes, colds, mild fevers, allergies, mild croup, stomach upset, and minor cuts or bites, as well as behavioral and mental health visits. Because a provider can't examine ears or listen to lungs over video, telehealth isn't used for things like ear pain, a significant cough, or anything requiring in-office testing such as a strep or flu swab — those still need an in-person visit.

    Telehealth works well for concerns like rashes, colds, allergies, mild croup, stomach upset, and minor cuts or bites, plus behavioral and mental health visits. It's not a fit for anything that needs a hands-on exam — ear pain, a significant cough, or a suspected strep or flu infection — since those require testing or a physical exam beyond what video allows. If a virtual visit isn't enough, we'll bring your child in to finish the evaluation in person.

If a family doesn't intend to vaccinate, we're upfront that we likely aren't the right match — but for families who share our evidence-based approach, including thoughtful, non-automatic use of antibiotics, we're glad to build a long-term medical home together.
